Loving Lille

July 17, 2009

Some screw up with the connecting trains (lack of seats) to Paris from Barcelona, we got to Lille instead. Small city northeast of Paris, rather quiet, but pretty all the same.

2.5-3 days is too much for a small place so it’s quite a breather for us – too much walking in Barcelona, and much to come in London.

Caught fireworks – July 14 bluewhitered national day, cool cathedral with translucent door, ginormous market, and much cooking of pasta.

WordPress doesn’t seem to like our photos too much, so till then.. you have words here.. and some photos on fb.

i love how:

the elongated windows frame the passing landscape always almost perfectly.
i can stare out and think, forever.

to those heading for a backpacking trip soon/in the future.

TWO sets of underwear is all you need. Okay, make it three in case one tears. =D

Madrid updates coming soon, Caixa Forum, Puerta America Hotel, Mirador, Reina Sofia.. etc are some of the architecture we visited. We had more fun with some than the others (like sneaking into Puerta America Hotel today, avoiding the sercuity guard, waiting in the elevator for people to press for the lift so that we can access that particular level, walking on glass 13storeys high OR shun away by residents of Mirador). Oh ya, I just remembered something. Madrid is a VERY DANGEROUS place, cause even Macs and KFC got sercuity guards. So someone please enlighten me. Picnic tomorrow! Peace.hellomadrid

2.16am

June 26, 2009

It is a routine, a social act, a parting shot. The well-wishes, parting wave and the last goodbye are part of the motion.

or so I thought.

I am wrong. What a pleasant mistake. It means so much more. It is a genuine concern and blessing to one’s journey. My extended family members just met over the last weekend and had a durian feast (as they know that I will be leaving soon). However, greedy as usual, I asked for one particular aunt to invite me if there is more durian feast to come during the weekdays. As I was busy during the week, the call didnt come, but the durians did! She passed it to my dad. I was like a kid in the candy shop, stuffing all the chilled durians into my mouth =D.  Yet, what touched me was a call from her for supper tonight. It wasn’t about the food that I will be missing, nor the routine weekly meetups. It was concern. The supper was simple, impromtu, or even short. But it was huge to me. Thanks.byeee

Its kind of weird. Is this how kids that study abroad feel?

-Emotional detachment from the soil that I’m brought up on.

Everything seems more foreign. Or have I turned sensitive? The playground that I am used to morphed into a tourist attraction!

-People around are weighed on the Significance Scale.

It happens in the mind, with no direct relation to those I-am-going-to-fly-soon-meet-ups. Everyone that my pea brain can remember weighs in. Some heavier than others. In one way or another, I’ve tried to show my appreciation for being part of my life. Even if its just in the mind, you have not been forgotten.

-Inability to plan the future beyond 3days.

Its like waking up every morning, “maximizing” the day by doing everything. Knowing this kind of days are not going to last. Its like knowing your death date. Doing everything without the ability to plan beyond. This is kind of exhausting.

Eh. Please. Its not half as bad as it sounds. Its is definitely interesting to go through this phase. Living out of comfort zone makes the rabbit growl. =D
